Crowded shopping malls, queues at the checkouts, angry drivers, cold and busy outside... Advent is here, and you don't know where to jump first. You're slowly ticking off items from your To-do list and dreading what you still have to do before Christmas. You'd rather fly away somewhere where people feel the true spirit of Christmas - peace and quiet. There's no need to run away, stay with what is, with yourself, with your breath, body and thoughts... and just observe them. We bring you a December series of mindfulness tips that will bring more closeness, magic and well-being to every day.

Our ambitions associated with Christmas are usually high. We want to please the whole family, keep traditions, have everything cleaned, baked, cooked, and there are work deadlines and unfinished business on all fronts. But somewhere in the back of our souls we long for peace, kindness, and magical moments of pause when we are close to ourselves and our loved ones. Such a multitude of often conflicting demands creates stress on our bodies and psyches. We find ourselves under pressure that we largely create for ourselves. Women in particular are more susceptible to mental and physical overload during this period.
And this is where mindfulness can offer a gentle but powerful support. It doesn’t add another task to the list. Rather, it opens the door to greater peace, clarity, and kindness to yourself, even in the hustle and bustle of life.
How can mindfulness help reduce pre-Christmas stress?
1) Slows down an overloaded mind
When your head is full of tasks (“presents – sweets – work – family – getting everything done”), it often runs on autopilot. A short mindful pause – for example, 1 minute of conscious breathing – helps interrupt this flow and bring you back to the present. The brain literally “resets”.
2) Helps distinguish between “I have to” and “I want to”
Mindfulness increases your ability to recognize what is truly important to you. You suddenly see more clearly which traditions you hold for joy and which are just out of habit. And from this clarity, it becomes easier to create boundaries.
3) Reduces tension in the body
Pre-Christmas stress often gets stored in the shoulders, stomach, and jaw. Mindfulness teaches you to notice these signals early – and relax your body before the accumulated tension turns into irritability or exhaustion.
4) Increases self-kindness
Mindfulness is not just about attention, but also about attitude. It's about how we treat ourselves when we're not doing well or when something doesn't go our way. A kinder inner voice helps us experience this period with more peace – instead of feeling like we have to "perform."
5) It brings back the experience – and thus the joy
When we are overwhelmed, we often don't even notice what is happening around us. Mindfulness helps us to truly experience the aroma of Christmas tea, the light of candles, the touch of a cup in our hands, the laughter of children. And that is exactly the moment when the feeling of peace we desire comes.
Try something different with us this year!
We'll be posting a mindfulness exercise on our blog every week until the end of the year. Are you feeling overwhelmed and drained? That's when it's most helpful to start.
